Air India Flight: Why Did The US-Bound Air India Flight Land In Russia?

Air India’s AI173 Delhi-San Francisco flight Boeing 777 had an engine failure. After this, the emergency landing of this flight was done at Magadan Airport in Russia. The aircraft had taken off from the IGI airport at 4 am on Tuesday, carrying 232 people.

Replacement Was Sent

Air India later sent the stranded passengers a replacement aircraft with food and essentials. Air India said the aircraft will take the passengers to San Francisco on Thursday.

An Unusual Circumstance

Magadan is a small port city in Siberia with no large hotels. As a result, 216 passengers and 16 crew members remained in temporary accommodation.

With no staff in Russia, Air India said it was working with the Indian consulate in Vladivostok.

The aggrieved passengers also tweeted several tweets to complain about the inadequate food supply.

America Was Worried

Vedant Patel of the US State Department said we continuously monitored the situation. I cannot confirm how many US citizens were on that flight.

Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines of the US, had said that what would happen if an airline landed in Russia with some prominent American citizens? This is a potential crisis.

Ukraine War Tension

Industry tensions around Russian airspace have come under the spotlight ever since a US-built Air India jetliner landed in Russia.

There is a Russian ban on some foreign carriers using its airspace in retaliation for Western sanctions over the Ukraine war.

These aircraft have redefined air routes and fly around the world’s largest country. Even though Air India’s Moscow flights were suspended last year, it continues to operate Russian airspace between India and North America. Takes off from the area.

What was wrong with the plane?

The airline expressed regret to the passengers and also apologised. The airline said that there was a problem with the plane’s engine. The aircraft pilots had received an indication of low oil pressure in one of the engines. Because of this, the aircraft’s pilot decided to land the plane at a nearby airport for the safety of the passengers.

Magadan is a small city in Russia. Passengers did not get complete facilities in this city. The airline thanked the passengers for their understanding and patience. The airline had arranged for the passenger and crew to stay in a local hotel.
