US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the US military on Monday attacked three targets used by Iran-backed fighters in Iraq. The attacks came after President Joe Biden ordered retaliation against Iran-backed militia groups after three American soldiers were injured in a drone strike in northern Iraq.
“US military forces struck three targets in Iraq used by Kata’ib Hezbollah and multiple groups,” Austin said in a statement. He said, “These precision strikes are a response to Iranian-sponsored militia attacks against US officials in Iraq and Syria. Groups such as Kata’ib Hezbollah attacked Arbil Air Base.”
How Did America Prepare For The Attack?
US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said that one of the American soldiers was seriously injured in the attack on Arbil Air Base on Monday. Iran-backed militia Kata’ib Hezbollah took responsibility for this attack.
The US President was informed about this attack during the Christmas celebration on Monday. Biden asked to respond immediately to this attack, and preparations started.
