Zelenskyy Says Ukraine Ready To Negotiate End Of War, But Only On One Condition

It has been almost 16 months since the war between Russia and Ukraine. The armies of both countries are constantly attacking each other. Thousands of soldiers from both countries have lost their lives. Many countries have also taken the initiative to calm the war earlier, but no result has come. Now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez that the government in Kyiv may be ready to negotiate an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has placed a condition on talks to end the war if his forces gain control of the borders that the country considers internationally recognized—said at the press conference on Saturday (July 1).

Ready To Negotiate An End To The War

The borders that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is talking about include Crimea, Donbas, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. At a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Saturday, Zelenskyy spoke of border control when asked if he was ready to negotiate an end to the war. Whatever space is included within these borders, they were under the control of Ukraine before the attack from Russia in February 2022.

Issue Of Joining NATO

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would be ready for diplomatic talks when we are at our borders. For this, we must control our borders according to international law. Zelenskyy also raised the issue of the country’s long-awaited NATO membership. He said he believed the alliance would have every reason to invite Ukraine to attend when the bloc convenes for a summit in Vilnius on July 11-12. He said that he is expecting a clear indication in this regard.
