Palestine has played a role in the internal conflict between Hamas and Israel. President Mahmoud Abbas has criticized Hamas. He distanced himself from Hamas terrorists, saying that the Hamas organization does not represent the people of Palestine. However, the country’s mouthpiece news agency, WAFA, did not include this comment of the President. After this, he withdrew his remark. But, by giving this statement, he has tightened the air for Hamas.
According to the Times of Israel report, a WAFA report initially stated that Palestinian President Abbas told Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that Hamas’s policies and actions “do not represent the Palestinian people” and the Palestine Liberation Organization itself. It is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
Hamas’s Air Becomes Tight
Later, his comments were removed so that Hamas would no longer be mentioned in the statement, which now only says that the PLO is “the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and not the policies of any other organization.”
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that Hamas’s policies and actions “do not represent the Palestinian people,” Wafa news agency reported. Wafa modified Abbas’s statement, saying that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. In this statement, Wafa removed Abbas’s remarks against Hamas. After this, Abbas also withdrew his comment.
According to a statement from Venezuela’s foreign ministry, Maduro and Abbas discussed the “terrible situation” in the Gaza Strip following “indiscriminate attacks” by Israel. According to the statement, Maduro reaffirmed “Venezuela’s unconditional support for the Palestinian cause and its authority” and offered to send 30 tons of humanitarian aid “to the Palestinian people” in the next few days.
Notably, Israel declared war on Hamas last Sunday, a day after the terrorist group’s fighters broke through the heavily fortified border and shot over 1,400 people. Most of those killed were civilians. The relentless bombing has devastated Gaza and Israeli soil. At least 2,670 people were killed in the Gaza Strip, most of whom were ordinary Palestinians.
