North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has ordered the country’s army to be ready to fight America. Along with this, Kim Jong has ordered arms manufacturing companies and nuclear weapons departments to speed up war preparations.
Speaking on policy directions for the new year at a key meeting of the country’s ruling party on Wednesday, Kim said Pyongyang would expand strategic cooperation with “independent anti-imperialist” countries, news agency KCNA reported.
“He (Kim) set counter-insurgency tasks for the People’s Army and the munitions industry, nuclear weapons and civil defence sectors to further step up war preparations,” KCNA said.
North Korea is expanding relations with Russia. The US has accused North Korea of supplying weapons to Russia, which is involved in the war with Ukraine. In return, Russia is providing technical assistance to North Korea to help it advance its military capabilities.
The report said Kim also laid out economic targets for the new year during the meeting and described it as a decisive year to complete the country’s five-year development plan. He clarified important tasks for the new year to advance critical industrial sectors dynamically and called for stabilizing agricultural output at a high level.
North Korea has faced severe food shortage problems in recent decades, including a famine in the 1990s. Earlier, such problems used to arise in the country due to natural disasters, but now this problem has arisen due to keeping the borders closed for a long time due to Corona. After the Corona period, a severe food security situation appeared in the country.
Due to favourable weather conditions, North Korea’s crop production is projected to increase year-on-year through 2023. But a Seoul official said the amount was still far short of what was needed to address the country’s chronic food shortages.
