On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the Ministry of External Affairs’ proposal to sign a migration and mobility agreement between the governments of India and Italy.
According to the new agreement, students studying in Italy can stay in Italy for one year even after completing their education. Apart from this, Italy has also decided to allow 12,000 non-seasonal and 8,000 seasonal Indian workers to work in its country.
The move will help address the shortage of skilled workers in Italy and provide better employment opportunities abroad for Indian workers. This agreement is considered beneficial for both the countries.
This will increase cooperation between India and Italy in education, culture and labour and benefit both countries’ people. At the same time, new opportunities will open up in Italy for Indian students and workers, and Italy will get a new source of skilled workers and talents.
This important MoU was signed by India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. Both the leaders described this agreement as an important step in strengthening relations between India and Italy.
An official statement from the Indian side said, “The agreement will enhance people-to-people contacts, promote mobility of students, skilled workers, business people and young professionals and strengthen cooperation between the two sides on issues related to irregular migration. ”
This agreement will remain in force for five years and automatically be renewed unless terminated by any signatories. This agreement implements the current Italian visa regime, including arrangements for post-study opportunities, internships and professional training.
