India has voted against the construction of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territory. The United Nations had presented a resolution condemning Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, which India has supported. The resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan, was supported by 145 countries, including India.
Apart from Israel, only six countries – Canada, Hungary, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and America supported the UN resolution. Apart from these, 18 countries remained absent during the voting.
Last month, a proposal was brought by Jordan in the United Nations General Assembly, in which a demand was made to stop the war in Gaza immediately. This resolution was passed with an overwhelming majority, but India avoided it. 120 countries voted in favour of the resolution brought by Jordan in the UN, and 14 countries voted against it. 45 countries had abstained from voting. In which India was also included. India had abstained from voting.
India Supported Palestine
After distancing itself from Jordan’s proposal, India’s stance was considered to be towards Israel, but now India has changed its strategy and supported Palestine. Many opposition parties have also appreciated the stand of the Indian government. TMC MP Saket Gokhale said Israel’s occupation of Palestine through settlers is illegal. This step of India is commendable.
