What is HMPV Virus or Human Metapneumovirus? At present, this virus has created an atmosphere of fear all over the world. What is HMPV Virus?
Human metapneumovirus is a negative single RNA virus of the family Pneumoviridae. This virus was first discovered in 2001. It is a paramyxovirus. That is, a type of virus that causes various common infections. Other paramyxoviruses include parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), measles, and mumps.

According to the CDC, HPMV is spread through coughing or sneezing. It can also be spread by physical contact with a person infected with this virus or by contacting contaminated objects. It also spreads through air particles that touch the eyes, mouth or nose.

This virus first infects your respiratory system. Due to this, symptoms of nasal congestion, cold, cough, difficulty in breathing and lung infection can be seen. These symptoms may last for the first 3 to 7 days and become more severe.

Human metapneumovirus is usually not serious, but it can have severe consequences in young children, older people, and people with weakened immune systems. It can sometimes spread to the lower respiratory tract, leading to a more severe illness like bronchiolitis. In such a situation, keep your distance from the person who shows symptoms of this disease. Wear a mask and take care of respiratory hygiene.
