Japan Furious Over China’s New Map Claiming Senkaku Islands as Its Own

Japan Angry Over New Chinese Map: China recently released a new map in which it declared the official territory of Vietnam and Taiwan, including India, the Philippines, and Malaysia as its part. The whole country strongly opposed China regarding this.

The name of Japan has also been added to the country protesting against China regarding the map. Let us tell you that Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno has registered a strong protest on behalf of the government by publishing the new map of China.

Japanese media quoted Matsuno as saying that Japan urged China to cancel the map because China has declared the Senkaku Islands located in Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan as its own. He depicted the Senkakus as the Diaoyu Islands on the map. This island is located on the banks of the South China Sea, on which China has staked its claim.

China Rejected Japan’s Protest

“The Senkaku Islands are an inherent part of Japanese territory historically and under international law,” Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said in a statement. He said that Japan adheres to its policy of being firm in protecting people’s lives and properties as well as the country’s land, sea and airspace. For this, we know how to react calmly and firmly.

However, reacting to Japan’s protest, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning rejected Tokyo’s claim on the islands. Ning said in a media briefing on Wednesday that the Diaoyu Islands and neighbouring islands are part of China’s territory.

Other Countries, Including India, Protested

After China’s new map was released, the governments of the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan joined India in rejecting China’s unique national map. They issued strongly worded statements accusing China of claiming their territory.

China published a new version of its national map last week, following what Beijing has referred to as problematic maps in the past that it claims misrepresent its territorial boundaries.

India lodged a strong protest with China over the map claiming Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin and said such steps only complicate the resolution of the ongoing border conflict.
