The official website of the Canadian Armed Forces was temporarily disabled on Wednesday. According to a report in The Telegraph, the website was hacked by a group of hackers called ‘Indian Cyber Force’, who claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on X (formerly Twitter).
Daniel Le Bouthillier, head of media relations at the Department of National Defence, told The Globe and Mail that the disruption began around noon and was later fixed. The Indian Cyber Force announced in a post on Twitter that “the Canadian Air Force website has been taken down” and shared a screenshot of the error message on the website.
According to The Globe and Mail report, while some desktop users were able to access the site, most mobile devices could not. The affected site is separate and isolated from the public websites and internal networks of the Government of Canada and the Department of National Defence. Le Bouthillier assured that there is no sign of widespread impact on his system.
The Canadian Forces, which includes all military operations in Canada, including the navy, particular command group, and air and space operations, is currently investigating the issue.
