India Gave A Befitting Reply To Canada, Said- No Rules Were Violated

There is a dispute between India and Canada since the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Amid the diplomatic row, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced that 41 diplomats had been recalled from India. Canada has also accused it of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. However, India has given a befitting reply to these allegations.

The Center said on Friday that India has violated no international norms. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, “We reject any attempt to portray the issue of equality as a violation of international norms.”

It further said- “In line with the state of bilateral relations, there is a significant number of Canadian diplomats in India. There is continuous interference in our internal affairs. However, New Delhi guarantees parity in mutual diplomatic presence.”

Just a few days ago, India gave Canadian diplomats until October 20. After this, Canada asked for the recall of its 21 diplomats and their dependents. According to Mélanie Joly, Canada has recalled 41 of its diplomats and 42 of their dependents from India.

Jolly states, “Immunities allow diplomats to work in that country without fear of reprisal or arrest. This is a basic principle of diplomacy. They only work if every country follows the rules. Unilaterally revoking diplomatic privileges is contrary to international law. This is a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Threatening to do so is stressful and inappropriate.”
