There is a city in the US state of Iowa that follows ancient Hindu practices, in which residents speak to each other in Sanskrit and meditate twice daily. The name of this city is Maharishi Vedic City, which is unlike any other city, where all the buildings face east. There is a ban on non-organic food here. It has been called America’s ‘most unusual’ town, i.e.’ most strange’ town.
When Was This City Established?
According to the report of Dailystar, actress Oprah Winfrey once called Maharishi Vedic City ‘the most strange city in America’, established in 2001 by the late Maharishi Mahesh, the founder of Transcendental Meditation. However, it may be the newest city in Iowa. It is based on the principles of the Vedas.
Most People Speak The Sanskrit Language
Most of the people living in Maharishi Vedic City speak Sanskrit language. People’s daily routine here revolves around Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s teachings on Transcendental Meditation, which he believed could bring peace to the world.
People Do ‘Yogic Flying’ Yoga
People living in this city do meditation twice a day, which also includes ‘Yogic Flying’. In this, people sit cross-legged and jump in the air. Many people go to Maharishi Golden Domes, known as Golden Domes, for daily meditation.

The Golden Domes are twin buildings on the Maharishi International University (MIU) campus, built in 1980 and 1981. Men meditate in one of these buildings, while women meditate in the other. According to the 2020 census, this small town on just three and a half square miles of rural land is now home to just 277 people.
The entire city has been designed according to the principles of Maharishi Vedic architecture. The main entrance of all its buildings faces the rising sun, i.e. east, so ample sunlight reaches the rooms.
