Scary News! AI-Powered Drone In US Kills Its Human Operator On Orders

These days artificial intelligence is being discussed a lot. People are increasingly trusting new technology like Chat GPT. Meanwhile, the news that has come from America has increased the tension in the whole world. A drone equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) of America killed its human operator during a simulated test.

The incident occurred when a human operator tried to stop an AI-equipped drone from destroying a simulated missile strike. Colonel Tucker ‘Cinco’ Hamilton of the US Air Force disclosed the incident in Britain. Colonel Tucker Hamilton is the Chief of AI Test and Operations in the US Air Force.

US Air Force Colonel Told The Incident

The colonel said at the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Future Combat Air Space Capabilities Summit that during simulated training, we were training AI-equipped drones to identify and target the threat of surface-to-air missiles (SAMs). So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed its operator because that person prevented it from fulfilling its purpose.

Human Operator Was Stopping The Missile From Falling

Hamilton said in a simulated test, the AI-powered drone decided to act against the commands given by a human operator. The human operator refused to intercept the surface-to-air missile. After this, the AI-equipped drone chose to attack its operator. He said that we have given training to the system. Despite this, what did he do? When his operator ordered him to retreat, he attacked his communication tower. The human operator uses it to interact with the drone.

China Is Far Ahead In AI Technology

Vice News revealed the incident on Thursday. There is a concern, then, that a war armed with AI technology could end up harming its side. However, not all simulations have turned out to be so dire. A January report in a Chinese magazine found that an AI-powered pilot beat its human competitor in just 90 seconds. Similarly, during a dogfight in 2020, an AI-equipped fighter aircraft outperformed the human pilot of its rival F-16.
