Elon Musk has suffered a significant setback by changing the name of Twitter. After changing the name to X, its weekly active users have seen a four per cent decline in the next few weeks.
Earlier this month, according to app intelligence firm Sensor Tower data, X Apps dropped four places to No. 36 in the overall category rankings. This was due to an eight per cent decline in installs, with both iOS and Android registering declines of 22 per cent and 18 per cent, respectively.

Revenue also increased by 25 per cent between August 6 and August 20, mainly due to revenue from iOS (up 24 per cent). The X rebrand also affected other apps such as rival BlueSky, Instagram Threads and Mastodon.
In the first week of the rebranding exercise (July 23 – August 5), Meta’s thread downloads dropped by 70 per cent, dropping the app to 16th place overall. According to data from Sensor Tower, BlueSky and Mastodon saw downloads increase by 180 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively.
