Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal won everyone’s hearts in IPL 2023 with his stormy batting. Earlier, he had also played many record-breaking innings in domestic cricket. In such a situation, cricket experts said he might get a chance in Team India soon. But no one knew that by the end of IPL 2023, this good news would come for them.
Yes, after the end of the 16th season of IPL, Team India has to play the final match of the World Test Championship against Australia. Along with announcing the Indian squad for this important match, the BCCI also released the list of standby players.
The news is that Ruturaj Gaikwad, one of the stand-by players, is getting married early next month, so he cannot travel to England for the WTC final. In such a situation, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been chosen in his place.
According to the report of The Indian Express, the BCCI has asked Yashasvi to start practising red ball cricket. Since he already has a UK visa, he will fly to London in a few days.
Jaiswal has been in scintillating form this season. Playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL, he scored 625 runs in 14 matches, while in Ranji Trophy, he scored 404 runs in five matches.
The BCCI initially selected Gaikwad as the stand-by opener for the WTC final. Gaikwad informed the BCCI that he could join the team after June 5. But coach Rahul Dravid demanded a replacement, after which Yashasvi was selected.
A BCCI official told The Indian Express, ‘He (Jaiswal) will join the Indian team as Gaikwad has informed us that he cannot go to England due to his marriage. He will be able to join the team after June 5. (But) Coach Rahul Dravid asked the selectors to choose an option. Therefore, Jaiswal will now fly to London soon.
India captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan will leave for London on May 28, while Suryakumar Yadav will leave on May 30 along with Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja.
