Indian Premier League president Arun Dhumal dismissed speculations that the tournament could be held in the UAE due to general elections from April 19 to June 1. The elections will be held in seven phases, and speculation is that the league will be shifted to the UAE. There were reports on social media that players have been asked to submit their passports to the respective franchises.
Dhumal, however, rejected these speculations outright. He said IPL is not being shifted anywhere. The tournament schedule will be announced soon. The schedule for the first two weeks of IPL has been released.
IPL Will Start From March 22
The first match will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 in Chennai. Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah clarified earlier that the entire IPL tournament will be played in India, as in the last Lok Sabha election year 2019. They were only waiting for the election dates to be announced by the Election Commission.
Earlier, however, the league was shifted out of the country during the general elections in 2014 when the UPA government was in power. Then, the first leg matches were played in UAE, while the second leg matches were organized in India.
