India’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill has made a great start to 2023. He has almost cemented his place as Team India’s opener in both formats, ODI and Test, and now he is eyeing a blast in the IPL, where he will be seen on the field for the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). Gujarat Titans have also shown confidence in his game, and now this franchise is looking at him as the future captain.
The team’s cricket director Vikram Solanki believes that Gill’s understanding of cricket is excellent and he can become the captain of this franchise team in future. Gill has been an integral part of the Indian team for the last six months, and in the meantime, he has put in impressive performances, including a double century in ODIs against New Zealand. He also played a crucial role in helping Gujarat Titans win the IPL title last year.
He said, Shubman, played the role of a leader last year also because of his conduct and professional attitude towards the game.’ Solanki said, Do I think that Shubman will be the captain of the future? Yes, definitely, but no decision has been taken yet. He has leadership qualities; he is very mature and very talented.
He said, ‘He has a perfect cricketing mind, and we will continue the discussion with Shubman and take his opinion in whatever decision we take.’ Gujarat Titans will play their first match in IPL against Chennai Super Kings on 31 March.
