The troubles of former Nepal team captain Sandeep Lamichhane are not taking the name of lessening. Now Sandeep Lamichhane has been sent to judicial custody by the district court of Kathmandu till the final verdict.
A single bench of Justice Madhav Prasad Ghimire gave this verdict. On October 6, Nepal Police arrested Sandeep Lamichhane in connection with the rape of a minor.
Significantly, in September, a 17-year-old minor girl complained to Sandeep Lamichhane. After this, a court also issued an arrest warrant against Sandeep Lamichhane, but Sandeep, playing a cricket league abroad, did not return to his country. Nepal Police took the help of Interpol to arrest Sandeep.
Then Interpol issued a ‘diffusion’ notice against Sandeep, after which he returned to Nepal. The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) suspended Sandeep by giving an order on September 8.
Can Be Sentenced To 12 Years
The public prosecutor has demanded a 12-year sentence against Lamichhane. But Lamichhane has denied the allegations of rape against him many times. Lamichhane said, ‘I am sure I will get justice and soon return to the cricket field to bring glory to my beloved country. To prove my innocence, I will fully cooperate at all stages of the investigation and fight the legal battle. Let justice be done.
Sandeep Lamichhane Has Played IPL
Sandeep Lamichhane is the only player from Nepal who has played in cricket leagues worldwide. Sandeep is also the first cricketer from Nepal to play IPL. With this, he has played in many leagues, including the Australian Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League and Lanka Premier League.
Leg spinner Sandeep was first recognized in 2018 when he played IPL for the first time. Then he was only 17 years old. Sandeep was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for Rs 20 lakh. Sandeep played 9 matches in IPL, taking 13 wickets. Sandeep took 85 wickets in 44 T20 matches for the Nepal team in international cricket.
