IPL has changed the fortunes of many people. The story changes because it rains money on those who enter this league. Many examples exist, from T. Natarajan to the likes of Mohammad Siraj. Mukesh Kumar can also join them. A lot of money has been showered on Mukesh Kumar in the IPL-2023 auction. Delhi Capitals have paid a price of 5.50 crores for this player. Mukesh was selected for Team India even before IPL, but he could not make his debut.
Mukesh, however, knew that he would play IPL soon. He had said with full confidence about playing IPL in an interview given to the English newspaper Indian Express, “Brother, trials are going on there too, for many years. The door will break.” Mukesh had said this when he was selected in Team India in the ODI series played against South Africa. However, he did not get a chance to debut.
Play Matches For Rs 400
The journey till here was very difficult for Mukesh. As such, Mukesh is a resident of Gopalganj in Bihar. But he came to Kolkata in 2012, and from here, a new chapter of his life started. He used to go against his father’s wishes and play matches for Rs 400-500. But then he took part in the trials organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), and then his luck changed from here.
In this trial, former Bengal fast bowler Ranadeb Bose, VVS. Laxman, Waqar Younis and Muttiah Muralitharan saw and were quite impressed. The result was that he joined the Bengal team within a year. From there, he played for India-A. Then he was selected for the South Africa series.
Although Mukesh does not give much importance to the struggle of his life because, according to him, it remains in everyone’s life, he said, My life is about trials. First in Gopalganj, where I became the best bowler in the district and then in Kolkata. Who changed my life? There have been struggles in my life, but it is pretty common. Happens to everyone. He probably would not have reached here if there were no difficulties in life.
People Supported
Mukesh says that luck supported him at every step of his life. Be it his father who asked him to come to Bengal or Bose and Manoj Tiwari? He said, I have been very fortunate; I have had help at every step. My father gave me one year to pursue a career in cricket, and then I was lucky enough to meet Rano (Ranadeb) sir, Manot bhaiya, and Arun Lal sir. If these people were not there, I would never have reached here. Manoj Bhaiya gave me a bat, pads and gloves.
Mukesh’s father had a brain haemorrhage in 2019. He never knew Mukesh should play cricket; he wanted Mukesh to join the army. Mukesh said, My father had a brain haemorrhage in 2019. He never liked my playing cricket. He wanted me to join the military. I also gave the CRPF exam twice. I wish my father were alive today. He would have been pleased.
