In which the names of two Indian and one foreign player were included. But SRH handed over the responsibility of captaincy to the South African player.
Markram Won The Race Of These Three Players
Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday appointed a foreign player Aiden Markram as the captain. The names of Mayank Agarwal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Aiden Markram were discussed for the captaincy. SRH did not give this responsibility to any of the two Indian players. Mayank Agarwal’s name was discussed the most. But he dropped out of the race. While Mayank Agarwal also has experience in captaincy in the IPL. Even after this, the franchisee ignored him.
Agarwal Comes Under Extra Pressure
Before the mega auction for IPL 2022, Punjab Kings retained Mayank Agarwal for Rs 12 crore. After this, the franchise entrusted him with the responsibility of captaincy. Last season was big for him as he was captaining in IPL for the first time.
It was expected that he would be able to take PBKS to the playoffs under his captaincy, but that did not happen either. Due to the additional pressure of captaincy, Agarwal could not do anything special with the bat. Perhaps this is why Sunrisers Hyderabad has not given him the responsibility of captaincy in IPL 2023.
Runs Do Not Come Out Of The Bat While Captaining
In IPL 2022, Punjab Kings was in the 6th position under the captaincy of Mayank Agarwal. PBKS played 14 matches last season, in which they managed to win seven games. In IPL 2021, when he was not the captain, in 12 innings of 12 games, his bat scored 441 runs for Punjab Kings. It can be guessed from these figures why PBKS did not make him the captain.
