India’s senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara hit a century on Friday (April 7) in the County Championship Division Two. While captaining Sussex County Team, he played this inning against Durham. Cheteshwar Pujara completed his century in 134 balls with the help of two consecutive fours.
He was dismissed as the seventh wicket after playing an inning of 115 runs in 163 balls with 13 fours and a six. Due to his century, the Sussex team had scored 332 runs for nine wickets by the end of the second day’s play. He is just 44 runs behind Durham’s score of 376. Pujara was made the regular captain from the start of the season.
When Pujara came out to bat, Sussex scored 44 for two, and the team looked in trouble. Then Tom Alsop (10) and Tom Clarke (4) were dismissed cheaply. With this, the team’s score became 91 runs for four wickets. But the captain teamed up with Olly Carter to get the team out of trouble. They shared a 112-run partnership for the fifth wicket and took the score beyond 200.

Pujara Shone Last Season As Well
This partnership was broken after Carter was dismissed for 41 runs. Pujara was dismissed when the team’s score was 245 runs. He has convicted LBW on the ball of Ben Rain. After his departure, playing crucial innings of George Garten (28), Nathan McAndrew (36), and Jack Carson (29) in the lower order took the team beyond 300. Pujara also played for Sussex in the domestic cricket of England last season. Then he scored five centuries and had 1094 runs in eight matches. He was the fourth-highest run scorer of the championship.
Pujara’s current form is good news for India. Team India has to play the final of the World Test Championship from Australia in June at the Oval in London. If Pujara continues the form, India can become a strong contender to win the title.
