Asian Games bronze medallist Gulveer Singh broke the men’s 5,000m national record by finishing second in the Portland Track Festival High-Performance Competition.
Participating in the Paul Banta Memorial Race, 26-year-old athlete Gulveer from western Uttar Pradesh clocked 13:18.92 seconds, better than Avinash Sable’s national record of 13:19.30 seconds set in Los Angeles last year.

Gulveer holds the national record in 10,000m and 5,000m races. He won the bronze medal in the 10,000m event at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year with a time of 28.17.21 seconds. India’s Kartik Kumar (13:41.07) finished 17th, while Sable (13:20.37) could not complete the race. In the men’s 5,000m high-performance event, Abhishek Pal finished third at 13:41.57 seconds.
