Gautam Gambhir Named New Head Coach of Team India, Support Staff to Change

BCCI has given Gautam Gambhir a big responsibility by announcing him as the new head coach of Team India. Gambhir will take over from the upcoming Sri Lanka tour until the end of 2027. With the new head coach, the team’s support staff will also change.

With the victory of the T20 World Cup 2024, the tenure of head coach Rahul Dravid and his support staff, Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), T. Dilip (fielding coach), and Vikram Rathour (batting coach), ended. The support staff will also change since Gautam Gambhir has become the team’s new head coach.

Gautam Gambhir’s Name Is Approved

2007 and 2011 World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Let us tell you that Gautam Gambhir made IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders champion under his mentorship. Now, his eyes will be on making Team India the world champion during his tenure as head coach.

On becoming the head coach, Gambhir said, ‘It is a matter of great honour to serve my tricolour, my people, my country. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Rahul Dravid and his support staff for their excellent performance with the team. I am honoured and excited to play the role of head coach for Team India.’

These Legends Will Join The Support Staff!

It is expected that Gambhir will bring his staff along for India’s tour of Sri Lanka starting in late July. If media reports are to be believed, Gambhir wants to keep KKR batting coach Abhishek Nair as the batting coach. At the same time, the name of former Team India pacer R Vinay Kumar is coming up for the bowling coach. However, no official announcement has been made about them yet.

How Many ICC Tournaments Will India Play During Gambhir’s Tenure?

Gambhir’s tenure as head coach will begin with the Sri Lanka tour at the end of this month and is going to last till 2027. Under his tenure as head coach, the Indian team will play the ICC Champions Trophy next year and the World Test Championship after that. Team India has to host the T20 World Cup in 2026. At the same time, the biggest target will be the ODI World Cup, which will be held in 2027. The final of the fourth season of the World Test Championship is also to be held this year.
