Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken significant action against star all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne. The 26-year-old Chamika Karunaratne was suspended for one year from all forms of cricket by the board for breaching players’ contract rules during the T20 World Cup. The executive committee of the SLC has pronounced this punishment after a disciplinary inquiry conducted by a three-member panel.
In its statement, the SLC said, “Considering the seriousness of Chamika Karunaratne’s breaches, the Inquiry Committee recommended to the SLC Executive Committee that the player be sternly warned not to do so in future.” Along with this, such punishment should be given, which does not have much effect on his cricket career.

The board further said, ‘In such a situation, following the above findings and recommendations of the inquiry panel, the executive committee has imposed a ban of one year from participating in all forms of cricket.
Apart from this, a fine of US $ 5000 (Rs 4.08 lakh) has also been imposed against Karunaratne. In the recently concluded T20 World Cup on Australian soil, Chamika Karunaratne took three wickets in seven matches. Chamika Karunaratne has also accepted all the allegations levelled against her.

26-year-old Chamika Karunaratne has played one Test, 18 ODIs and 38 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka. Apart from scoring 22 runs, Karunakaratne has taken one wicket in the Test match.
Talking about One Day Internationals, Karunaratne has scored 376 runs at an average of 34.18, which included a half-century. Whereas in T20 International, Karunaratne has 257 runs at an average of 15.11. Chamika Karunaratne has taken 16 wickets in ODIs and 21 wickets in T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka.
