Pakistan captain Babar Azam was dismissed after scoring only nine runs in the first match of the five-match T20 series against New Zealand. This was the 100th T20 match of his career. However, he scored a brilliant century on Saturday in the second series match played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With this century, Babar has now left Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma behind in T20I cricket.
In the second T20 match against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Babar played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs in 58 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. He adopted an aggressive approach against James Neesham in the 20th over. The Pak captain hit six and two fours to complete his century on the last ball of the over.
As soon as he scored a century, Babar left behind the records of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. This is the third century of Pakistan’s captain in the T20I. Babar has now become the captain with the most centuries as captain in T20 International cricket.
Overall, Babar has joined Glenn Maxwell, Colin Munro and Suryakumar Yadav in second place in the list of batters with the most T20I centuries. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is on top of this list with four centuries.
Babar has his ninth century in T20 cricket and is now only behind West Indies legend Chris Gayle. Six of these have come under his captaincy, the second most in this format after Australia’s Michael Klinger (7). Babar is ahead of Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who have five centuries.
Pakistan Took A 2-0 Lead In The Series
With the help of Babar Azam’s century and his 99-run partnership with Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan, he scored 192/4. Babar completed the first 50 runs of his century in 38 balls and gave the last 50 runs for just 22 runs.
Babar got a life against James Neesham in the 17th when the Kiwi fielder dropped his catch at the deep. At that time Pakistani captain was playing after scoring 65 runs in 46 balls.
