Pakistan Went To Become Umran; This Domestic Player Got Banned For Match-Fixing

Recently, former Pakistan bowler Sohail Khan, speaking big words, said that we have many players like Umran Malik. Domestic cricket is full of such players, but Sohail Khan was probably not aware of his domestic cricket.

Corruption has reached its peak in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. Due to this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken significant action against spinner Asif Afridi regarding the allegations of corruption. Asif Afridi has been banned from cricket for two years. Asif Afridi was convicted of two breaches under the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code.

Afridi Unknowingly Violated The Code

Afridi was handed a two-year ineligibility period for breaching Article 2.4.10, while he was given a six-month ban for breaching Article 2.4.4, the PCB said in a press release. Both periods of disqualification will run concurrently. These will start from the day of his provisional suspension, which began on September 12, 2022.

The PCB has said that the admission of guilt, remorse, past track record and request of Asif Afridi have been considered. The PCB has taken a sympathetic view of his case as Afridi had unknowingly breached the code. PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi said the board has a zero-tolerance approach towards such offences.

It’s Bitter Truth

He said- PCB does not take any pleasure in suspending an international cricketer for two years. As the governing body of the game, we need to set an example, handle such matters firmly and send a strong message to all cricketers. He said, ‘It is a bitter truth that corruption is a threat to our game as selfish, corrupt people allure cricketers in various ways.

PCB Has No Sympathy

This is why PCB is investing heavily in the education of players so that they can be vigilant and report approaches to help PCB eliminate this menace. If despite all our best efforts to create awareness, a player falls prey to his greed, the PCB has no sympathy for it.

Who Is Asif Afridi

Asif Afridi has played 35 first-class, 42 List A and 65 T20 matches. Asif Afridi has played for Multan Sultans in PSL. Uncapped Asif Afridi was included in Pakistan’s squad for the three ODIs and the only T20 International against Australia in March last year, but he did not get a chance to make his debut.
