America’s Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the world’s most expensive drug. You will be surprised to know its value. One dose of this medicine is worth 3.5 million US dollars, i.e. 28.51 crore rupees. This medicine is used to treat Hemophilia B, a sporadic disease. This is a genetic disease in which human blood seems to be reduced (Reduced Blood Clotting).
Scientists have said that the price is ‘reasonable’ considering the type of disease that this drug treats and because of the hard work and technology that went into developing this drug. The name of this medicine is Hemgenix.
When the process or speed of blood clotting slows down in someone’s body, the bleeding from his body does not stop. It is a rare genetic disease. It is tough to stop it. That’s why this medicine was made.
World’s Most Expensive Medicine Hemgenix
Men suffer more from hemophilia-B disease. It is difficult to estimate the exact number of patients worldwide. But in America, about 8 thousand men are struggling with this disease. He will have to struggle with this for the rest of his life.
This disease is so expensive that not everyone can get it treated properly. The problem increases with seriously ill people. That’s why such medicine was needed for a long time.
Researchers have studied that a person suffering from hemophilia-B spends 171 to 187 crores in his whole life. Or so does his government. At least, this happens in America. However, treating this disease in European countries is cheaper than in America.

The drug Hemgenix is an injection which is inserted into the veins. The drug is a viral-based vector which sends engineered DNA to the target cells of the liver. After this, the cells replicate the genetic information sent through the drug. That is, they distribute it. Then this information sends a message to the Clotting Protein that you should do your work properly. This is called Factor IX.
The drug has not been recognized as such. Two studies have been done about it on 54 patients of Hemophilia-B from moderate to severe levels. Uncontrolled bleeding was reduced by more than half in all patients after taking Hemgenix. It also has side effects. For example, headache, cold-like symptoms, and increased amount of enzymes in the liver. This medicine should be taken only under the supervision of an expert doctor.

Peter Marks, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said that work on gene therapy for the treatment of haemophilia has been going on for two decades. Now there is some relief. Because it is such a disease that can spoil the life quality of any human being, although Hemgenics is not the last medicine for this disease, it can be considered the most accurate medicine for treatment.
