NASA Admits Its Moon Mission Is Too Expensive; Here’s What You Need to Know

NASA is again running a mission related to sending humans to the Moon. Meanwhile, a report has been released by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) on Thursday. According to this, senior NASA officials say that the launch system of the Artemis program is so expensive that it cannot be achieved.

However, it is not that the rocket cannot be made at all. This report gives the cost of the Space Launch System (SLS). This report indicates that senior NASA officials consider it unsustainable at current cost levels.

Apart from this, the report also talks about the lack of transparency on expenditure. However, this report does not mention which officers have made such a claim. There is no comment from the spokesperson of NASA yet. The GAO report emphasizes reducing costs. “With input from NASA management, NASA has developed a roadmap outlining short-term and long-term strategies for the SLS program that it expects will result in future cost savings,” the report said.

What Is Artemis Mission

SLS rockets are at the core of NASA’s Artemis mission. NASA aims to take humans to the Moon again by 2025-26. Artemis will continue to run missions beyond this, including building a permanent base on the Moon. The first launch of SLS, Artemis-1, was launched in 2022. At the same time, NASA will launch a mission related to sending astronauts to the Moon in 2024. After this, NASA will take humans to the Moon through the Artemis-3 mission.

NASA Took The Photo Of Vikram

NASA aims to reach the south pole of the Moon. India has become the first country to get here, which has sent its Vikram lander and Pragyan rover to the Moon through the Chandrayaan 3 mission. India’s lander landed on the Moon on 23 August. Chandrayaan-3 has also captured the picture of India’s lander. NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has also photographed it.
