American scientists have discovered the ‘vampire virus.’ Till now, there is no information available about such viruses. The disease caused by this dangerous virus is called ‘MiniFlayer’, and it can attach itself to other viruses. Professor Tagide DeCarvalho discovered this at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, America. The research has been published in the ‘Journal of the International Society for Microbial Ecology’.
This strange virus was discovered as a class project, which Professor DeCarvalho led. His students were involved in this class project. Professor DeCarvalho Keith R. Manages the Porter Imaging Facility. With the help of his students Janelle Luce and Hira Ahmed, he isolated this virus from land in an area in Pikesville, Maryland. Soil samples were taken in 2019 by Professor DeCarvalho.
What Was Found During The Research?
According to the Daily Star report, Professor DeCarvalho found two bacteriophages during his analysis. One MiniFlayer and the other MindFlayer viruses can infect bacteria, enter them, and start making space. However, some strange things were seen in the MiniFlayer. It did not wait for help from other viruses like satellite viruses; instead, it started dominating the bacteria.
Ivan Arrill, Professor DeCarvalho’s colleague, said: ‘The minifly saw attacking bacteria as part of its evolution. Instead of waiting, it started attacking the bacteria. It stuck to the bacteria in the same way that vampires in horror movies stick to the throats of humans and start drinking blood.’ The professor says viruses can do amazing things, but this is new. Such viruses can prove dangerous for humans.
