In many countries around the world, December 25 is celebrated as the festival of Christmas. However, there are many Muslim countries in the world where the date of December 25 printed on the calendar is like a typical day. It has also been a matter of discussion for a long time that when the Muslim people consider the Lord of the Christian community as their prophet, why do they not celebrate Christmas; a festival celebrated happily as their birthday?
Jesus Christ has been described many times in the Islamic book Quran. It is believed that Jesus Christ came to the world before Muhammad, the last prophet of Muslims. Not only this, in the Quran, the mother Mary, who gave birth to Jesus, has also been told. However, Prophet Muhammad is not mentioned in the Christian scripture Bible. But if you take the name of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary in front of the Muslim community, they respect it but don’t celebrate Christmas.
Why Doesn’t The Muslim Community Celebrate Christmas?
These reasons have been described in books all over the world. But when a common Muslim is asked why not celebrate Christmas, he cites Islamic teachings received from elders and says that it is forbidden in Islam. If you understand the meaning of his saying, then in Islam, Jesus Christ is respected as a prophet. Still, Christmas, the festival started by Christianity, is not celebrated. One of the main reasons for this is the wall built between these two religions.
Although Lord Jesus did not draw this wall, Christian and Islamic extremists have created a rift in society worldwide. The idea of dividing the two religions is not a few years old but has been going on for centuries. The image of Prophet Muhammad has been attacked in some controversial pictures in the 15th-century church of San Petronio in the Italian city of Bologna. Not only this, many artefacts are present in Europe against Prophet Mohammad.
The Wall Built Between Religions Is Also A Big Reason.
It is not that these photographs and artefacts were not opposed. In 2002, Islamic extremists were suspected of destroying the statues of the Bologna Church. Mass murders were done in many countries in the name of Islam. This created a big rift between the two religions in society. And the festival of Christmas and Eid celebrated on the biggest scale in the world, was divided into different parts by the people according to their religion and society.
Even after the division of both religions, the Muslim society considers Jesus Christ as its prophet but does not celebrate Christmas. But not only Muslims in the world; there are many other religions and countries where Christmas is not seen as a big festival because they are not Christian community-dominated countries; a great example is India. Although all festivals are given equal respect in India, the brightness you see in western countries on Christmas day is not that much in India.
