The Price Of Tomato Is Less Than ₹1 Per Kg, Farmers Are Unable To Even Recover The Cost

Farmers cultivate tomatoes on a large scale in Madhya Pradesh. However, the farmers are not getting the right price for the tomato crop this year. Farmers are not even able to withdraw their wages on tomato crops. The production of tomatoes increased in December. Because of this, a massive decline in its rate is registered in the market.

Tomatoes Are Being Sold For Less Than One Rupee Per Kg

Farmers are getting the rate of one-carat tomato from Rs 20 to Rs 30 only. It is less than one rupee per kg. The cost is a far cry from the price the farmers get; now, even the wages for plucking tomatoes are not coming out. In such a situation, the farmers are looking desperate.

What Did The Administration Say?

According to Deputy Director Horticulture ML Uike, the prices have come down due to an increase in the arrival of tomatoes in December and January. He has appealed to the tomato farmers that they can take advantage of making sauce ketchup from tomatoes or by drying tomatoes and making them sour. This will increase the profit of the farmers.

Farmers Can Also Take Advantage Of This Scheme

ML Uike further said that his department has the Pradhan Mantri Micro Manure Upgradation Scheme for the farmers, in which there is a provision to give a grant of 10 lakhs to the individual beneficiary on a maximum project of 30 lakhs. Farmers can increase their income from tomatoes by taking advantage of this scheme.
