Modi Government’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ Plan; Bill May Be Tabled In Parliament Soon

The Central Government has called a special session of Parliament from 18 to September 22, in which there will be five sittings. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi gave this information on social media site X on Thursday.

After this, speculation started that the Modi government may bring an important bill during the special session. According to sources, the central government is preparing to bring the ‘one nation-one election’ bill in the Parliament’s special session, which will last five days.

BJP has been wanting a ‘one nation election’ for a long time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has mentioned this. He has said that one nation, one election is the need of India. ‘India Today’ has quoted sources saying that the Modi government can bring a bill on the One Nation-One Election in Parliament in the upcoming special session. If this happens, an atmosphere of tension can be seen in the Parliament between the government and the opposition.

The Law Commission is also very active on One Nation, One Election. Earlier this year, it had also sought answers from various political parties. In the coming days, assembly elections will be held in many states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.

If the government brings this bill before that, it will be considered a big step. Opposition parties, including Congress, may also oppose this. Under One Nation-One Election, the elections to the Lok Sabha and all the State Assemblies will be held simultaneously.

Why is PM Modi In Favor Of ‘One Nation-One Election’?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has many times mentioned one nation, one election. He has been in favour of holding simultaneous elections. A few years ago, he called an all-party meeting regarding this. However, even then, the opinions of political parties were different.

PM Modi’s logic behind conducting one nation, one election is that it will save time and the country’s money. It is known that many assembly elections are held yearly in the country. Apart from this, Lok Sabha elections are held every five years. In such a situation, the BJP argues that these elections will save money and time if conducted simultaneously.

Special Session Has Been Called From 18 to September 22

The Central Government has called a ‘Special Session of Parliament’ from September 18 to 22 during the ‘Amrit Kaal’, where there will be five sittings. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Joshi said in his post on the social media site ‘X’, “The special session of Parliament (13th session of 17th Lok Sabha and 261st session of Rajya Sabha) has been called from 18 to September 22.” Nothing has been officially said about the agenda of the session.

However, this session will be held a few days after the G20 summit in the national capital on September 9 and 10. Joshi said there will be five meetings in this special session of Parliament. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said, “I am hopeful of meaningful discussion and debate in Parliament in this session to be held during Amrit Kaal.”
