There are many scary and haunted places in India where people have little information. You must have heard about the haunted fort of the country, Bhangarh. Also, you must have heard about the haunted railway station Begunkodarin Bengal.
Similarly, there is also a lake, which looks very beautiful, but when you come to know about the reality of this lake, you will be shocked. The name of this lake is Roopkund, and it is present in Uttarakhand.
The beauty of the Himalayas and the things present there seem like a dream. Thousands of people visit the tourist destinations in the Himalayas every year. But there is also a lake here, where people go, but they feel scared after reaching near it. This lake is called the ‘lake of skeletons’.
Roopkund Lake is at an altitude of about 16,500 feet above sea level. It is present in Uttarakhand, at the base of Trishul Mountain. The lake may look good from a distance, but when someone peeks inside, his soul trembles because hundreds of skeletons are visible inside.
Hundreds Of Skeletons Are Present
This lake remains frozen throughout the year but melts and grows larger and smaller depending on the season. When the snow melts during summer, the skeletons inside are visible, but not during winter. According to a BBC report, 600-800 people skeletons have been found here. Due to being buried in snow, flesh is also present on some of those skeletons. The government calls this lake mysterious because people are not yet fully aware. According to reports, British Rangers first saw skeletons here in 1942.
What Is The Opinion Of Scientists?
Many types of stories are prevalent regarding these bones and skeletons. It is unknown how many of them are genuine and how many are rumours. People say that in 2004, scientists discovered through carbon dating that these bones belonged to people over 1000 years old. Some bones are about 100 years old. Scientists claim that the people to whom all these bones and skeletons belong did not die simultaneously but at different times.
Eadaoin Harney is a scientist who has told a big thing about this lake. They believe these deaths may not have been caused by a single accident but by different accidents. Many people also claim that these are the skeletons of Chinese soldiers killed during the India-China war, but no one knows the truth!
