Record Breaking Sales Of Biryani On New Year, This City Remained At The Forefront

The whole country is celebrating the New Year. On New Year’s, people in the country ate Biryani to their hearts’ content. Sources associated with the food delivery platform told The Indian Express that more than 4.8 lakh biryani were ordered on Swiggy on the night of New Year’s Eve, i.e. December 31. 1,244 units of the dish were ordered every minute. Sources said one out of every four biryani orders was placed in Hyderabad. That means only over 1 lakh 20 thousand biryani orders were delivered in Hyderabad.

At the same time, Swiggy Instamart (a platform for ordering groceries and household essentials) also got bumper orders. Compared to the number of orders received during the Cricket World Cup final on November 19, 2023, 1.6 times more orders were placed per minute on New Year.

By evening, sources said Swiggy’s food delivery and Instamart services crossed last year’s high. Swiggy had delivered 3.50 lakh biryani orders and over 2.5 lakh pizzas across the country in the same period last year. Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace, Swiggy, said, “Swiggy Food and Instamart broke all New Year’s Eve records! The team couldn’t be happier.”

“Around one million users were active on the Swiggy app in the last hour,” the Swiggy app said in a post on ‘X’ at 9.50 pm on Sunday. This is more than the number of people joining gyms starting yesterday.” More than a million people ordered food for others this year, the post said.
