Water supply will be affected from 10 am to 10 am in east and west Mumbai between February 8 and 9. These wards include areas of Chembur, Govandi, Deonar, and Mankhurd. Civic officials said it was due for repair works like replacing the inlet valve of the Trombay High-Level Reservoir on February 8, 2023.
Residents of the concerned mohallas have been requested to store water a day before the water cut. Along with this, the BMC administration has also been asked to cooperate in using water sparingly during the curtailment period.
A few days ago, the city faced a severe water cut due to repair works at the Bhandup water treatment plant, which supplies water to a significant part of Mumbai. There was no water in almost half the city for two days.
Advisory For People
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that water would not be available 24 hours from 10 am on February 8 to 10 am on February 9. The authorities will carry out repair and maintenance work, including replacing the inlet valve of the Trombay high-level reservoir that supplies water to several parts of the financial capital. The areas to be affected include Chembur, Deonar, Mankhurd and surrounding areas.
Work On Ending Mumbai’s Water Shortage
In the budget estimates presented recently, the BMC laid out several plans to improve the water supply network in the city. Rs 350 crore was allocated in the budget for constructing a new water treatment plant of 2000 MLD (million litres per day) at the Bhandup campus.
BMC said the water treatment plant of 1910 MLD capacity was constructed about 44 years ago at Bhandup Complex. It has almost completed its life. Its structure has also become weak. The Water Supply Department is running a pilot project of 12 MLD to convert wastewater into potable water at the Colaba Sewerage Treatment Plant. For this, the process of appointing a consultant is under process, and a budget provision of Rs 32 crore is proposed for this work in the year 2023-24.
