Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the start of the ‘Lek Ladki Yojana’ for girls. This scheme will be implemented from April 1, 2023. Under this scheme, announced during the budget session in March, financial assistance will be provided to girls right from birth. Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande said that with this decision, it has been decided that the girl should be helped financially from the time of her delivery. From next week, we will celebrate Navratri and honour the divine power of Goddess Durga.
Money Will Be Available In Different Classes
Under the scheme, the government aims to help low-income families with orange and yellow ration cards. In the state, an orange ration card is issued to families with annual income ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 1 lakh. A yellow ration card is given to those earning Rs 15,000 in urban areas. Initially, under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs 5,000 will be given to the family on the birth of a girl child. For the second time, when the girl comes to class 1, the family will get Rs 6,000 and when she goes to class 6, Rs 7,000.
Rs 75,000 At The Age Of 18 Years
Similarly, on taking admission to class 9, Rs 8,000 will be given, and on attaining the age of 18 years, Rs 75,000 will be provided. That means, under the scheme, the girl and her family will get a total of Rs 1,01,000. According to the Economic Survey 2023 of Maharashtra, 2.56 crore families have ration cards. Of these, 1.71 crore are orange card holders, and 62.60 lakh are yellow ration card holders. These families will get benefits under the scheme.
Girls Will Be Educated and Empowered
Kayande said that families with yellow or orange ration cards often compromise girls’ education due to lack of money. With this decision of the government, girls will be educated and empowered. Child and Welfare Department Minister Aditi Tatkare said that the state government has started a scheme to empower the girl child. It took a little more time to implement because suggestions were continuously being received for this scheme. But now cabinet approval has been accepted for this. This will also reduce the incidents of female feticide and school dropouts.
