‘Emergency’ Will Be Taught In Madhya Pradesh Schools, CM Mohan Yadav Announced

The Emergency will be taught in Madhya Pradesh schools. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that the state’s school curriculum will include a chapter explaining the fight by those who opposed the excesses and repression during the country’s Emergency in 1975-77.

Mohan Yadav also announced several additional facilities for the “Loktantra Senani” who participated in the struggle against the Emergency. June 25 marked the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed in the country.

It Is Important To Tell The Current Generation About The Emergency

He said that to make the current generation aware of the struggle during the Emergency, a lesson on the conditions prevailing in the country, the repression, and the determination of the democracy fighters to oppose the harsh steps taken by the then-Congress government will be included in the school curriculum.

‘The Emergency Lasted For 21 Months’

The Chief Minister said this while addressing a gathering of those who fought against the Emergency at his residence in Bhopal. He said that the Emergency lasted 21 months, during which civil liberties were violated, dissent was suppressed, and democratic principles were violated.

Announced These Facilities

CM Yadav said the democracy fighters could stay in the government guest house for three days at a 50% discount. They will also be exempt from paying tolls on the highway. He said there would be no delay in paying treatment expenses to the democracy fighters through the Ayushman Health Card.

He said that the concerned District Magistrate would ensure payment within three months. On this occasion, Yadav announced that in case of severe health problems, air ambulances would be made available to the democracy fighters to take them to big hospitals or other metros for treatment.

Discount Will Be Given In Many Services

He said that the air taxi service started in the state, and anti-emergency warriors would be given a 25 percent discount on the fare. Yadav said that the funeral of the democracy fighters would be arranged with state honors. Apart from this, the amount given to their families at the funeral will be increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.

He said that employment opportunities would be provided to the family members of democracy fighters by providing them with the necessary training to set up industries or other business ventures. On June 25, 1975, then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an emergency in the country, jailed opposition leaders and dissidents, and imposed press censorship.
