According to the Supreme Court website report, burnt currency was found in a storeroom of Justice Verma’s official residence while extinguishing the fire on the night of Holi on March 14. This information was given to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. According to the report, unaccounted cash received from unknown sources was found in a burnt condition in the storeroom, which caused the matter to gain momentum.
Justice Yashwant Verma’s Statement: Conspiracy Allegations
Justice Verma has denied any connection to the case. “There was nothing like this when I last saw the place. It appears to be a conspiracy to defame me,” he said.

In his detailed explanation, he said the fire broke out in a storeroom near his official residence’s staff quarters. The place was used to store old household items like furniture, utensils, and gardening equipment. It was neither locked nor directly connected to his main residence.
Family’s Status At The Time Of The Fire
Justice Verma and his wife were in Madhya Pradesh when the incident occurred on March 14. Only his daughter and aged mother were present in the house. After being informed of the incident, he arranged to return to Delhi by an IndiGo flight from Bhopal the following day. His daughter and personal secretary informed the fire brigade when the fire broke out.
Justice Verma also said that all his family members and staff were at a safe distance during the firefighting operations, and no one saw the cash.
All Financial Transactions Through Banking Channels
He stated that his family does all financial transactions through banking channels such as UPI and card payments. He also said there has been no official confirmation of recovery or cash seizure at the scene.
He questioned why it was not immediately placed before him if so much cash was found. He said, “We were not shown any sacks or remains of burnt cash. Our staff said that only debris and useful items were removed from there. Why was it not officially seized if such a huge amount was recovered?”

Justice Verma stressed that the storeroom where the cash was found was completely different from his main residence. He termed this allegation completely baseless and said this could be a well-planned conspiracy against him.
