From today, all the people in Delhi will not get subsidies on their electricity bills. From now on, the subsidy will be available only to those who have applied for it. The Delhi government has said that out of about 57 lakh consumers, 40 per cent have decided not to take electricity subsidies. The application was to be made for subsidy on the electricity bill by October 31. The government has said that till October 31, more than 34 lakh consumers have applied for a subsidy.
Rebates on electricity bills have been given in Delhi since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in 2015. But on September 14 this year, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that from now on, the subsidy would be available only to those who apply for it.
Till now, there was no option to give up subsidies. Whether you want it or not, a subsidy is available. But now there is an option to take or not to take a subsidy. CM Kejriwal claimed that many people want to give up subsidies, so this new scheme has been introduced.
The last date to apply for a subsidy was October 31, but if you cannot apply for any reason and want to take the subsidy, you still have the option. What is that? Know…
How Can I Apply?
There are two ways to do this. First – online and second – offline. To apply online, you must send Hi on WhatsApp, number 7011311111. After that, you have to choose the language. Then confirm all the details by entering the CA number (mentioned on the bill). You will be registered for subsidy.
Apart from WhatsApp, give a missed call on this number (7011311111). After this, the link to the subsidy form will come on the message. Fill it. The third way online is that a QR code must have come on the electricity bill. Scan it through the power company’s app. After scanning, the form will open and fill it.
If you are not techno-friendly, you must have a subsidy form on the electricity bill. Please fill it out and submit it to the connection centre. At the connection, the centre is where you deposit the bill.
Confirmation will come through message or email in three days to fill out the subsidy form. If you have two connections, you must enter another mobile number to take the subsidy on the other. The subsidy will be available on only one connection on one mobile number.
What If You Haven’t Applied Yet?
Under the old scheme, the subsidy was available only until September 30. If you applied for a subsidy by October 31, the bill would also be exempted from October 1 to October 31.
But if you have not applied yet and are doing so now, you will have to pay the whole bill for October. If you apply in November, you will get a discount on the bill for November.
Had Applied, But Want To Give Up Subsidy, What To Do?
Now you have to wait a year. If you have applied for a subsidy, then next year, you will have to fill out the form and give information about leaving the subsidy.
CM Kejriwal said there would be a chance to take or leave the subsidy only once a year. Meaning now you have to fill out the form again next year and tell whether a subsidy is needed or not.
If You Take Subsidy, What Will Be The Benefit?
If you take a subsidy, you will not have to pay any bill for electricity up to 200 units. At the same time, only half the bill will have to be paid for electricity from 201 to 400 units. But if you do not take a subsidy, no matter how much electricity you use, you will have to pay the bill.
