Now you can easily change the name on the already reserved train ticket. Northern Railway (NR) has made significant changes and relaxed some rules to ease the cumbersome process of the name change on reserved train tickets. Now officials at almost every station of Northern Railway have been authorized to take applications, check required documents and change names on journey tickets.
Explain that many important stations come under Northern Railway, including major stations like Prayagraj Sangam and many small stations like Phafamau and Phulpur in Prayagraj. Officials said that investigations would be done at many places to prevent brokers and middlemen from taking advantage of these exemptions.
Under the revised policy, if a passenger desires, the Railways will change the name on the confirmed ticket within 24 hours. The option of changing the names of family members on train tickets was available for a long time. Still, now several more relaxations have been given, according to the letter issued by the Northern Railway in this regard.
Railways have also issued special instructions regarding government departments in this regard. Whether it is a police or administrative officer, an employee going on government duty or official work, a school or college student or a member of a procession, their tickets can be changed per the new rules.
For example, if the ticket is reserved in the name of a police personnel who has to go somewhere for administrative duty. But the situation becomes such that he cannot go on duty, and someone else will be sent on duty. In this situation, changing the name on the ticket will be easy. Now the name can be changed easily without cancelling that reserved ticket. Similarly, the student’s names can also be changed at the request of the school or college administration.
The same rule will also apply to ‘marriage procession’ or pilgrimage. If someone has made a railway ticket reservation in bulk for a ‘marriage procession’ or ‘pilgrimage’ and cannot join the journey due to some circumstances, his name on the ticket can be changed to someone else’s name.
Rekha Sharma, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Northern Railway, Lucknow, said that even at stations with no gazetted officers, Chief Reservation Supervisor (CRS) and In-charge Reservation Supervisor (RS) could change the name. If the passenger is a Government servant and the appropriate authority (sanctioning Government tours) requests in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of the Government servant be transferred to another Government servant on duty Even if he goes, the name will be changed.
Further, suppose a passenger makes a written request to transfer the reservation made in his name to any other family member, i.e. father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband or wife, 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. In that case, his request will be accepted.
