CM Arvind Kejriwal May Get Relief From SC Amid Elections, Court Gave This Decision

The Supreme Court has made a special comment during the hearing on the petition of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The court told ED it could consider interim bail for Arvind Kejriwal due to elections. The Supreme Court will hear this case next on Tuesday, May 7.

The court said this case may take time, but we can consider interim bail because of the elections. The bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), that it is likely to take time to hear Kejriwal’s petition against the arrest.

In such a situation, the court is considering hearing the arguments of the investigating agency regarding granting him interim bail. SV Raju says he will protest against granting interim bail to Kejriwal. On this, the bench says that we are saying that we will hear the interim bail; we are not saying that we will grant interim bail. The top court told Raju that he could appear for arguments on the interim bail petition on May 7. Let us tell you that the bench is hearing Kejriwal’s petition, in which the ED has challenged his arrest.

Asked For Reply On Kejriwal’s Petition

Let us tell you that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been imprisoned in Tihar Jail in judicial custody since his arrest on March 21. The Supreme Court notified ED on April 15, seeking its reply to Kejriwal’s petition. On April 9, the Delhi High Court had asked to maintain his arrest. The court said ED had very few options because Kejriwal had refused to join the investigation even after ED repeatedly sent summons.

The Court Asked What Materials You Have

During this, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing on behalf of ED, also presented arguments. The court interrupted Raju and asked the ED many questions. The court asked what material you have with you so that it can be decided that arrest is mandatory. Justice Sanjiv Khanna sought information from Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, regarding when the elections will be held in Delhi. Singhvi said there will be elections in Delhi on May 25. There will be a ban on campaigning 48 hours before the elections.
