Modi Government’s Big Decision, Ban On Import Of Apples Worth Less Than This

Apple Import: The Narendra Modi government at the Center banned the import of apples priced below Rs 50 per kg on May 8. The benefit of this government order is expected to be given to the farmers cultivating apples in the country. According to the reports, the farmers of Kashmir have been demanding this ban for a long time.

The directorate general of foreign trade has said in his statement that importing apples with a price of less than Rs 50 (CIF- cost, insurance and travel expenses) is being banned. A special exemption has been kept for Bhutan in this new government order.

In the fiscal year 2023, apples worth $ 260.37 million were imported into the country from April to February. According to sources, these apples were imported from countries like Turkey, Italy, and Chile. At the same time, earlier in the financial year 2021-22, apples worth $385.10 million were imported. Let me tell you, Kashmiri farmers said that domestic prices are being affected due to the import of apples from outside the country.

In 2018, the central government lifted the ban on the import of apples from ports. Also, permission was given to bring apples from the land border.
