BSF jawans have started a pioneering project in the form of a Beekeeping and Mission Honey experiment on the India-Bangladesh border, which will promote beekeeping. This project is being launched as a pilot project to promote overall development in border villages under the “Vibrant Village Programme” directed by the Honorable Prime Minister. This will not only stop cross-border infiltration and smuggling but will also benefit the farmers.
Under this innovative scheme, bee boxes have been strategically installed near the border fence. The bee box is placed slightly above the ground near the face in an area surrounded by bee-friendly fruit and flower plants. This creates a favourable environment for the bees and can also help prevent intruders and smugglers from tampering with the border fence. A unique effort is being made to install bee boxes in a series so that bees are effective in playing an important role in border security and preventing unauthorized entry.
Cultivation and Planting Of Various Flowering Plants Encouraged
The India-Bangladesh border region is known for its rich biodiversity and dense forests. Additionally, local farmers engage in intensive farming, ensuring a year-round food supply for the bees. Mustard cultivation and planting of various flowering plants have been encouraged among the villagers, which will further help the bees’ food supply.
To ensure the project’s success, the villagers have been educated about the benefits of honey beekeeping and its potential for their assured development. The villagers and farmers appreciated BSF for bringing this integrated development initiative to the border area and promised to involve more villagers.
BSF’s Commitment To Both Border Security And Rural Development
AK Arya DIG provided a comprehensive overview of the benefits associated with beekeeping and honey missions, highlighting the substantial benefits compared to traditional farming methods. He further said that BSF commits to both border security and rural development. This is an example of the innovative solutions that can transform border areas into vibrant, self-reliant communities.
As the pilot project progresses, BSF aims to expand this initiative to more villages along the India-Bangladesh border, thereby promoting development, security and prosperity in the region.
