Delhi: Travel Of Delhiites Will Become Easier, 100 Mohalla Buses Will Soon Run On The Roads

The Delhi government’s much-awaited Mohalla Buses service will start this month. With Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal coming out of jail, the government has decided on the inauguration date.

It is believed that nine-meter-long AC electric buses will start running on Delhi’s roads from the last week of this month. A Transport Department official said that this service would be started with 100 Mohalla buses on September 15, but it will begin at the end of this month.

These buses have been kept in Kushak Nala and Ghazipur depots. The running of Mohalla buses will improve first- and last-mile connectivity. The government plans to run 2,180 AC Mohalla buses by 2025.

Route Ready For Mohalla Buses

Now, the government has started getting 9-meter-long electric buses from PMI. Starting next month, buses from JBM will also begin to come. The route has been prepared for Mohalla buses. A plan is to run these buses within a 10-10 km radius.

Mohalla buses will also be run in areas where 12-meter-long buses cannot reach. These buses will facilitate people’s travel from their homes to bus terminals, metro stations, and main roads. Mohalla buses have 23 passenger seats and a standing capacity of 13 passengers.

The Bus Will Run 120-130 KM On Full Charge

Once fully charged, the bus can run 120-130 km. Six seats (25 percent) in these buses are pink, specially reserved for women passengers. Women will also not have to pay fares on these buses.

The fare on Mohalla buses will be the same as that of the Delhi government’s 12-meter-long AC buses. 16 depots are being prepared for parking and maintenance of Mohalla buses.
