American Jet Company Ready To Set Up Factory In India, Waiting For PM Modi’s US Tour

General Electric’s (GE) proposal to set up a jet engine factory in India will likely be approved during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US. In the past, America has agreed in principle on this, but the necessary process has not yet been completed. US defence companies cannot establish joint ventures outside the country without US government approval.

Will Get Employment In The Country

India is using only engines bought from GE in its light combat aircraft. In the coming 10-15 years, India has planned to produce 400 new-generation fighter aircraft. Therefore, India’s effort is to set up a joint venture between GE and HAL in India, through which aircraft engines can be manufactured in India itself. Wherein this will reduce the cost.

There will also be employment generation in the country. If sources related to the Ministry of Defense are believed, the Biden administration may approve the setting up GE-HAL joint ventures during Modi’s visit to the US on June 22.

Work On Plan B

Although nothing has been officially said about this from the White House or GE, India is also working on Plan B, according to sources. He is also in touch with other global companies making jet engines. These include Rolls Royce, Pratt & Wintley, and Eurojet, but priority is being given to GE as its engine is already being used in Tejas.
