Mention Of Promoting Bilateral Cooperation

On Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “At the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit India on an official visit on September 9 and 10.”

The Ministry of External Affairs also mentioned promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries in many areas in the last few years. The ministry said, “India and the UAE have historically enjoyed close and friendly relations. In recent years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE has deepened in many areas, including politics, trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology, education and culture.”

The Economic Partnership Agreement Has Been Signed

After Modi’s historic visit to the UAE in August 2015, bilateral relations between the two countries reached a comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022 and a Local Currency Settlement (LCS) system in July 2023 to promote the use of the Indian rupee and AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) for cross-border transactions.

According to official data, the two countries are among each other’s top trading partners, with bilateral trade estimated at around US$85 billion in 2022-23. The UAE is also among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2022-23. The UAE has a population of about 3.5 million Indians, the largest expatriate group there.
