Yoga for Good Sleep: Lack of sleep has become a common problem in today’s busy life. Due to stress, anxiety and irregular routines, many people are unable to sleep well at night. Lack of sleep has a bad effect not only on physical but also on mental health.
Many measures are taken for good sleep, one of which is yoga. Some easy asanas in yoga can improve sleep if done before sleeping. In this article, we will learn about three easy asanas to help get a good night’s sleep – Balasana, Uttanasana and Ardha Uttanasana.
Balasana
Balasana is a very simple and calming asana. It helps relax the body and reduce stress. Doing it before sleeping calms the body and mind and gives good sleep.
How To Do
- Sit with the knees bent and the legs stretched backwards.
- Rest the forehead on the ground, keep the hands beside the body, or stretch them forward.
- Stay in this position for some time and keep breathing deeply and slowly.
Uttanasana
Uttanasana means bending forward. This asana helps make the body flexible and reduces stress. Doing this before sleeping improves blood circulation and reduces muscle tension.
How To Do It
- Stand straight and keep the feet at the width of the hips.
- Slowly bend forward and try to touch the feet or ankles with the hands.
- Hang the head down and stay in this position for some time.
Ardha Uttanasana
Ardha Uttanasana is a form of Uttanasana in which we bend only half the way forward. This asana also helps relax the body and reduce stress.
How To Do It
- Like Uttanasana, stand straight and keep the feet at the hips’ width.
- Slowly bend forward and keep the hands on the knees or ankles.
- Hang your head down and stay in this position for some time.
