When Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Ram Leela’ was in the shooting phase, there were a lot of reports that the lead actors of this film, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, were dating.
If two actors work opposite each other, be it Bhansali’s film and the story has a love story, then such rumours often go viral. But when ‘Ram Leela’ was released in theatres on November 13, 2013, the eyes of many viewers were left open after seeing the chemistry between Ranveer and Deepika.
Many viewers were coming out of the theatres saying that their real-life chemistry has made the film’s scenes more alive. However, till then, neither of the two actors had said anything on the news of dating or a relationship.
Ranveer and Deepika remained in a relationship for the next five years, and in 2018, on November 14, they converted their relationship into marriage. This year both are celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary.
Deepika Had Love At First Sight
In a later interview, Deepika said that falling in love with Ranveer was a matter of ‘love at first sight for her. Deepika said that she met Ranveer for the first time in 2012 and told him as soon as she met – ‘I feel there is a connection between us.’
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director of ‘Ram Leela’, was one of the first to see this connection between Deepika and Ranveer. In an interview given long after the days of dating, Ranveer had told this anecdote that seeing his performance with Deepika, Bhansali felt that both were in a romantic relationship.
The Stone Fell From The Window But Did Not Stop
In this interview, Ranveer said that even after telling the director’s cut many times, the scene does not end in the actor’s mind and that feeling keeps going on inside. He mentioned ‘Ram Leela’ in this connection while increasing his point. He said that he and Deepika were so lost in their kissing scene that even after throwing stones, they did not separate.
Ranveer told Film Companion, ‘I remember an occasion from Ram Leela when Ram and Leela are lost in each other in a very passionate kiss scene. And since everything is genuine in Mr Bhansali’s films, there are few visual effects.
So we were on this bed, lip-locked, and the scene was to be disturbed by a brick coming through the window. Deepika and I are performing on the set. An actual brick is thrown through the window and breaks the glass.
But in the first take, Deepika and I were kissing and wholly lost, and the brick broke the window. Then Mr Bhansali came to know that (something is going on between them)… He said look here, sure!’ This Means Bhansali got confirmed after that kissing scene that Deepika and Ranveer’s case has progressed.
Even after ‘Ram Leela’, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone worked together in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmavat’. All their three films as a pair proved to be big hits. Deepika and Ranveer are one of the favourite couples of Bollywood fans today, and the public celebrates their every moment. But now it is being awaited which film this steamy pair will be seen together next time.
