Astro’s Moonbin breathed his last on April 19, 2023, at 25. To keep his memory alive, a memorial space will be set up publicly in Gukcheongsa for his fans to honour the K-pop singer. Gukcheongsa is a Buddhist temple in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
Even though Moonbin did not practice Buddhism, his family requested that his memorial be opened in Gukcheongsa for his beloved admirers. The K-pop idol agency Fantagio released a statement about the same and sympathized with Astro Band’s fans. He added, “We fully sympathize with Aroha [Astro fans] in wanting to honour the late Moonbin for a long period. Accordingly, after long and careful discussions with his bereaved family, we developed a Crafted off-site Monumental location.”
Moonbin’s memorial site will reportedly open at the Buddhist temple on June 7, 2023, and fans can start visiting from 5.30 am. Fantagio stated, “The public may travel comfortably to find rest and soothe their hearts if only a little.” Also, the agency urged fans of the idol not to leave any food at the site due to its hilly location, which makes it susceptible to insects and other creatures. Nevertheless, fans can leave notes and letters, which will be collected and stored for some time. A designated box is also provided for all letters and notes to Moonbin.
As per reports, Monbin’s memorial space, which is currently located on the roof of the agency’s building, will be closed at midnight on June 6. The day will also mark the 49th day since the demise of the Astro singer. According to Korean culture, a soul lives and departs in the world for about 49 days. Also, letters and notes for Moonbin will be handed over to the family when collected.
