Kantara Is A Very Poorly Made, Very Loud Film

Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara film is being discussed extensively in the country and abroad. The film has grossed above 200 crores globally. The film is also liked a lot in the Hindi belt. The Hindi version of the movie has done a business of 30 crores.

Many veterans like Rajinikanth, Kangana Ranaut, Dhanush, Anushka Shetty, Kicha Sudeep, Raj & DK, and Prashant Neel have praised the film fiercely. But writer and filmmaker Abhiroop Basu feels that ‘Kantara’ is a poorly made film. First, read what he said about ‘Kantara’.

Abhiroop Basu Slams Rishab Shetty

Talking to E-Times, Abhiroop said, I think people’s understanding has been made fun of by making this film. Very poorly made, very loud film. Whose characters do not look natural and do not seem connected to the root. Same clichéd plot twist. It looks like a gimmick. When the film reaches its climax, there is no interest left. I wouldn’t say I liked this film at all.

He adds, But I don’t think it’s surprising for any film to make you believe in divine intervention. Especially at this time when the scientific relation of mythological characters is being searched in your country. So it all fits in this film.

Abhiroop Basu is from Kolkata. Apart from being a director, he is also a scriptwriter. He has previously worked with artists like Pankaj Tripathi and Adil Hussain. The short films ‘Lali’ and ‘Meal’ he wrote became very popular. ‘Lali’ was released on Disney Plus Hotstar this year. His movie The Paperman, which came in 2018, was highly appreciated. But his views about ‘Kantara’ are slightly different.

Abhiroop Basu has made chiefly short films. His film ‘Doll’ was also shown at Denmark’s 46th Odense International Film Festival. Many people also ridicule him for his idea about ‘Kantara’. But a film doesn’t need to be liked by everyone. Every man has his standard of watching a movie, telling it good and evil. ‘Kantara’ does not live up to Abhirup’s scale.

Talking about Kantara’s earnings, the film is getting a good response in India and abroad. The US box office has earned 1 million dollars, i.e. about 8.24 crores. It has become the highest-grossing Kannada film in the US after ‘KGF-2’. The film is flying flags in Australia as well. There the film has done a business of 2 lakh dollars, i.e. about Rs 1.05 crore.
